Background - Saint James College

In September 2020, Tambay Mansaray and James Bangura, both Sierra Leonean, joined forces to create Saint James College as a result of their research findings. The research revealed that high school graduates in Kaffu Bullom Chiefdom, Port Loko District Northern Sierra Leone had limited options for continuing their education after completing senior secondary school. This was primarily due to the lack of tertiary institution facilities within their community. Additionally, these high school graduates faced financial constraints that prevented them from traveling to bigger towns and cities in pursuit of higher education opportunities. The cost of university tuition and living expenses proved too burdensome for them to bear. Consequently, many young individuals resorted to engaging in detrimental activities such as drug use, prostitution, gambling, theft, and other forms of anti-social behavior. Concerned about this dire situation facing the youth in this community, Tambay Mansaray and James Bangura were compelled to take immediate action. Establishing Saint James College became their mission – a college dedicated to providing post-secondary school training opportunities specifically tailored towards marginalized youths. This initiative aims to transform these youngsters into valuable members of society by equipping them with essential skills and knowledge. The primary objective behind Saint James College is to undergo thorough training that enables young people to become productive and efficient citizens. Utilizing technology as an enabler, the college seeks to give students access to broadened learning experiences and support systems for academic growth. Saint James College has received official approval and accreditation from the National Council for Technical Vocational and Other Academic Awards (NCTVA) as well as the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC). These entities hold the authority to oversee the regulations of tertiary institutions within Sierra Leone. Furthermore, it is important to note that Saint James College is also registered as a private company Limited by Guarantee.
